CT Guided Spine (CSI) Injection for Pain Management
Computerized Spine Injections (CSI) are used to diagnose and treat spinal pain. CSI is performed using a multi-detector CT scanner. In the past, spinal injections were performed by feeling the bony landmarks and by using a large dose of anesthetic to cover a wide area of tissue. These injections were not specific nor precise. C-arm fluoroscopy is used also to better localize the general area of where a nerve or joint is.
CSI is much more precise compared to traditional c-arm fluoroscopy. The nerves and blood vessels are well visualized and therefore CSI procedures are less painful and injury to adjacent structures is rare. Also CSI results in a lower radiation dose both to the patient and Interventionalist
